Midtown

Eye-popping architecture, world-renowned landmarks, the epicenter of American theater, and more all reside in the middle of the West Side of Manhattan.

Welcome to Midtown

Get to know Midtown East

Midtown East may very well be the only neighborhood in Manhattan where you can look up and see the stars. Of course, you’ll likely be staring at the muralled ceiling of Grand Central, but what’s wrong with that? The historic Beaux-Arts train hall is positively gorgeous and is only one of several significant masterworks in Midtown East—a list that includes the Chrysler Building, Plaza Hotel, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and more. Along with its sibling to the west, Midtown East also encompasses the world’s largest central business district. However, there is plenty of living room among the grand architecture and business offices. Luxe co-ops and condos—themselves often housed in impressive, towering structures—are the dominant type of residence. Still, you’ll find low-rise apartments and even townhouses further east into the Turtle Bay and Sutton areas. With stunning skyline and riverside views—plus bountiful transit options—Midtown East is a hub for Manhattan’s action.

Midtown East Commerce & Culture

There’s no shortage of activity around Midtown East. Fifth Avenue serves as the flagship residence for many international stores, particularly luxury goods brands. Plentiful shops have also staked a claim to Madison Avenue, especially over 59th Street into the Upper East Side. Barely across the neighborhood’s borders lay a diverse set of adored institutions. As the name suggests, the Museum of Modern Art exhibits an astounding array of modern art. Guarded by twin lion statues, the Main Branch of the New York Public Library is marvelous in its architecture, interior design, and breadth of collections. Rockefeller Center has you covered for even more shopping plus seasonal musts like the complex’s eponymous Christmas tree and famed ice skating rink. And from a greenspace perspective, you really can’t do much better than having Bryant Park at one corner of your boundaries and Central Park at the other.

Eye-popping architecture, world-renowned landmarks, the epicenter of American theater, and more all reside in the middle of the West Side of Manhattan. For many, Midtown West is the image in mind when they picture NYC. Midtown West comprises an immense central business district with its eastern counterpart, home to countless offices and high-profile headquarters. But worry not; gorgeous high-rise apartment towers abound as well. There’s also a building you may have heard of called the Empire State Building, a structure that’s synonymous with the city and in a class by itself when it comes to adoration and reverence. Many subway lines converge to travel across Manhattan—and well into Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens—which is without even mentioning bus service at Port Authority and train service at Penn Station. Life here means being at the very center of it all while simultaneously being near everything else in the city and beyond.

Midtown West Commerce & Culture

Unquestionably, New York City’s reputation as a cultural capital would not exist without Broadway. Eyeing stunning marquees, receiving a Playbill, watching phenomenal actors put on award-worthy performances that launch careers and cement legacies: All are woven into the fabric of what makes seeing a Broadway show a can’t-miss experience throughout the Theater District. Speaking of performing arts, Radio City Music Hall is an icon unto itself. It’s worth it to simply venture inside for the jaw-dropping interior design, let alone the illustrious act you’ll undoubtedly be seeing. Depending on the day or occasion, the area’s food options will have you covered, from on-the-go to cherished lunch spots to top-notch sit-down eateries. Perhaps surprisingly, certain hotels house among the best restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. And, of course, there’s Times Square. While unquestionably a tourist destination, it’s still a singular technicolor experience, loaded with shopping and entertainment.
